This January, I was delighted to be in residence at The Space Upstairs in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I loved this space. The warehouse gallery loft is located in the East end of Pittsburgh and has been active for the past decade. The atmosphere is generative of permission and comfort, innovation and exploration, with all creators and witnesses welcome. Check them out at www.thespaceupstairs.org.
The residency culminated in a showing of a new work Contemporary Dance Solo #1 on Friday, January 29th, 2016 as part of the Second Saturday Program. Second Saturdays are the signature monthly jazz-happening series at The Space Upstairs for improvisational performances, live multimedia experimentations, and honest, jazzed expressions of the spontaneous moment. Happenings frequently feature new works from the Resident Artists, as well as impromptu collaborations with guest music, movement and visual composers.
I presented a second iteration of the work Contemporary Dance Solo #1 with Duet in New York on Tuesday, February 9th at DanceRoulette in Brooklyn. For this iteration I collaborated with the talented and patient performer Justin Mock.
More to come!
